Introducing Jesus
During 30 years of ministry as a pastor, I have been introduced to people many times. Sometimes it has been in a professional setting and the person presenting me would recite a list of things I have done and places that I have been. On other occasions I would be introduced in a personal way to a stranger who was going through a hard time. They would give my name and then a quick summary of why I was a person who could be trusted. Still other times I have been introduced to a friend of a friend and the remarks are more cutting in a sort of friendly jest.
Now, suppose that you have been called on to introduce someone to Jesus. Because, if you are a believer, then in a very real way you have been called to do just that. How would you begin and what information would you choose to highlight? He is the one and only Son of the Living God and a co-equal part of the Trinity by Whom all things were made and are sustained. That is certainly important. But, He also came to Earth fully as a human and experienced all things as we experience them; including temptation. That would seem like something worth mentioning. Then, not only is He God, and not only was He the one, perfect man, but He also is interested in entering into a relationship with each human being on a personal level.
So, how would you introduce Him? Would you be afraid that you would leave something important out?
Thankfully, the Bible has been written to give us an introduction to Jesus, the One who offers salvation to all mankind. God knew that as we would all fall into the curse of sin and come short of God’s glory. He knew we would need a Savior. He supplied a history of human events to declare why we need Him so much. He gave us signs that would confirm who Jesus was when He came into the world. His life was recorded to give us an example to follow. His death, burial and resurrection are recounted to give us hope that his life can be ours.
Join us the next six weeks as we go through the story of the life of Jesus through the gospel of John. Come expecting to learn more about Jesus for your own walk with Christ and invite someone to come who needs to know more about Him. We look forward to seeing you!
