Building Community
Faron Thebeau

One of the greatest blessings that has marked Mosaic since its beginning has been a genuine sense of community. Very early on, we adopted a prayer that our church be a place where “strangers become friends, and friends become part of the family of God.” By His grace, we have seen this happen. Over seven years we have seen countless friendships form and strengthen. Our worship services have become a place where many feel at home. Community groups have grown from simple Bible studies to genuinely challenging discussions and applications of the Word and encouragement. All of this has led to people deepening their roots in Christ and becoming bold to share the Gospel with others.

Perhaps, this could be credited in part to the amount of young adults that call Mosaic home. After all, they are in that very social part of life that is often built around a circle of friends. However, I would like to believe that it is a deliberate blessing imparted to us by the hand of God. His value of community for His people is seen all throughout the Scripture. He declared to Adam that, “it was not good that man should be alone.” He promised to make a family of Abraham that would bless all the nations of the world. David declared that, “the Lord places the solitary in families.” Then, when Jesus came to Earth, He surrounded Himself with 12 disciples and challenged them to continue into all of the world making ever more disciples.

It is in the book of Acts that we see this family of God really begin to take shape as a community. They laughed, cried, loved, learned, suffered and triumphed together. They had disagreements that threatened to tear them apart but the bond that they shared in the Spirit always held strong and caused them to continue to grow day by day.
It is our desire that Mosaic continue to grow as a family. We want to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice. We desire to teach those that are hungry to learn and lend a helping hand to those that are in need. Join us for the next four weeks as we examine the Biblical example of “Building Community” in Acts 2:42-47.
